Peptide Therapy: What Can Be Measured, and What Cannot

Peptide use has grown far faster than the monitoring around it. People take compounds for months with no baseline and no follow-up, then judge the result on how they feel. This article is about what a blood test can and cannot honestly tell you.

First, the position we take

LabX does not supply, prescribe, endorse or advise on peptide therapy. A number of peptides in circulation are not FDA-approved medicines. What we do is laboratory monitoring for people already under a prescriber’s care β€” the same physician-authorised route as any other test we run.

We think that distinction matters, and we would rather say it plainly than blur it.

Growth-hormone-releasing peptides

Compounds such as sermorelin, ipamorelin and CJC-1295 work by prompting your own growth-hormone release. Growth hormone itself is useless to measure directly β€” it is released in pulses, so a single sample tells you almost nothing.

The marker that actually tracks this is IGF-1, which integrates growth-hormone activity over time. And we will be straight with you: IGF-1 is not currently on our validated small-volume menu. We cannot run it from a Tasso collection today. We can run everything around it, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a panel that quietly omits the most relevant number.

What we can monitor, and why it matters

  • HbA1c and glucose β€” growth-hormone activity raises insulin resistance. This is the best-documented metabolic effect and the one most worth watching.
  • Thyroid (TSH, free T4, free T3) β€” commonly shifts on GH-directed therapy.
  • ALT, creatinine and eGFR β€” liver and kidney, the organs that clear most of what you take.
  • Haemoglobin and haematocrit β€” particularly where testosterone is part of the same protocol.
  • Lipids and albumin β€” body-composition change shows up here before it shows up on a scale.

What no blood test will tell you

For compounds such as BPC-157 there is no validated monitoring assay, no established therapeutic range, and no blood marker that tracks whether it is working. Anyone selling you a test that claims to measure that is selling you something else.

What monitoring can do is establish a baseline, catch a metabolic or organ change early, and give you and your prescriber something factual to reason about. That is a smaller claim than the market usually makes, and it is a true one.
